Company Description Duggan McHugh Law Corporation is a Sacramento-based firm focused on business and employment law, representing employers in state and federal trial and appellate courts. The firm advises small to large business entities and employers on compliance, risk management, and workplace issues. Its practice includes representation before agencies such as the EEOC, California DFEH, DLSE, and the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board. The firm's trial attorneys handle matters involving contract disputes, unfair business practices, trade secrets, harassment, and discrimination claims. Duggan McHugh also represents clients in arbitrations, mediations, jury trials, and appellate matters before courts including the Third District Court of Appeal and the Ninth Circuit. Role Description The Billing Assistant is a full-time, hybrid role based in Sacramento, CA, with the ability to work from home part of the time. This position supports the firm's billing and collections processes, including preparing, reviewing, and finalizing client invoices in coordination with attorneys and staff. Day-to-day responsibilities include entering and verifying time and expense entries, processing billing adjustments, and monitoring accounts receivable to help ensure timely payments. The Billing Assistant will respond to internal and client billing inquiries, maintain accurate billing records in the firm's systems, and assist with generating reports and reconciliations. The role also involves collaborating with the administrative and accounting teams to improve billing workflows, ensure compliance with client guidelines, and support other finance-related tasks as needed. Qualifications Proficiency in billing operations, including Billing Process and Invoicing, with experience supporting professional services or law firm billing preferred. Foundational knowledge of Accounting principles and comfort working with numbers, spreadsheets, and billing or practice management software. Basic understanding of Finance concepts related to accounts receivable, payment application, and reporting, or willingness to learn quickly. Strong Communication skills, including clear written and verbal communication with attorneys, staff, and clients regarding billing matters. High attention to detail, accuracy in data entry, and strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines. Demonstrated reliability, discretion with confidential information, and a collaborative, service-oriented approach. Prior experience in a legal, professional services, or similar office environment is preferred. High school diploma or equivalent required; additional coursework or certification in accounting, finance, or business is a plus.
