POSITION SUMMARY
The Dermatology Billing and Coding Specialist is responsible for accurate coding, billing, and reimbursement of dermatology services. The role ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, payer policies, and internal procedures. The Specialist collaborates with providers, clinical staff, and insurance carriers to resolve billing issues, maintain documentation, and optimize revenue cycle performance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITES
Claims Management
  • Prepare, review, and submit claims to Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurers, and private pay patients.
  • Monitor claim acceptance and adjudication; resolve denials, rejections, or underpayments.
  • Maintain documentation of billing processes and corrective actions. Coding and Documentation
  • Assign and verify ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes accurately.
  • Ensure codes are sequenced correctly per payer and regulatory requirements.
  • Review patient charts for completeness and clarify unclear documentation. Accounts Receivable & Payment Posting
  • Manage AR aging reports and timely collection of balances.
  • Post electronic/paper remittances and reconcile payments with bank deposits.
  • Generate patient invoices and follow up on outstanding balances. Insurance Verification & Patient Financials
  • Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to services as needed.
  • Communicate patient financial responsibility, good faith estimates, and monitor payment plans. Compliance & Quality Improvement
  • Ensure billing practices comply with federal, state, and payer regulations.
  • Participate in audits, performance improvement, and revenue cycle initiatives. Collaboration & Communication
  • Work effectively with providers, staff, and insurers to resolve billing issues.
  • Maintain Professionalism and confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Associate's Degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or related field or 5-10 years medical billing experience.
  • Minimum 2 years medical billing and coding experience in healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-10, CPT-4, HCPCS coding, and
UV-04 CMS-1500
forms.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Strong attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills.
PREFERRED JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Experience in dermatology billing and coding (procedural and cosmetic services).
  • CPC, CCS, or equivalent coding certification.
  • Experience with EMR and billing systems. Core Competencies
