Freight Audit Clerk Primary Responsibilities:

In this specialized finance role, you will manage the intersection of transportation and accounting. You are responsible for ensuring that the company only pays for the freight services it actually received at the rates that were quoted.

Freight Auditing:

Meticulously audit incoming freight invoices against Bills of Lading (BOLs) and rate sheets to identify overcharges or errors.

Payment Processing:

Prepare and process verified freight payments to carriers, ensuring all financial documentation is complete and accurate.

Spreadsheet Management:

Utilize Advanced MS Excel functions to track transportation spend, lane costs, and carrier performance data.

Dispute Resolution:

Proactively contact carriers to resolve billing discrepancies, missing BOLs, or unauthorized accessorial charges.

Ledger Partnership:

Work closely with the Accounting Manager to ensure freight expenses are coded correctly to the General Ledger.

Documentation Control:

Maintain a highly organized digital and physical filing system for all shipping and financial logistics records.

Freight Audit & Finance Clerk Requirements:

Required Experience:

Minimum of 2 years of experience in Freight Billing is required.

Financial Aptitude :

Previous experience in Accounts Payable (AP) or Freight Auditing is highly preferred.

Excel Mastery:

Advanced proficiency is required. You must be comfortable with data sorting, advanced formulas, and maintaining complex financial spreadsheets.

Detail Obsession:

You must be the type of person who enjoys finding "the needle in the haystack"—catching small errors that save the company money.

Industrial Comfort:

You must be comfortable working on-site at a equipment reclamation facility.

Communication:

Ability to interface professionally with carriers and the internal accounting team.
