Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Unit Billing Clerk specializing in Long-Term Care (LTC) billing. The successful candidate will play a vital role in managing the billing processes for our healthcare facility, ensuring accurate and timely submission of claims while maintaining compliance with industry standards. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to efficient revenue cycle management within a supportive healthcare environment. Responsibilities Prepare and process billing claims for long-term care services using appropriate coding standards such as DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group), CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems. Review medical records and documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness for billing purposes. Collaborate with clinical staff to verify patient information and ensure proper documentation aligns with billing requirements. Submit claims electronically through Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, ensuring compliance with payer guidelines. Follow up on unpaid or denied claims, performing medical collections as necessary to optimize revenue recovery. Maintain detailed records of billing activities, adjustments, and collections for audit purposes. Stay current with industry regulations, coding updates, and best practices related to medical billing and collections. Skills Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and medical coding practices. Proficiency in
DRG, CPT
coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems essential for accurate billing. Experience with medical billing software and EMR/EHR systems to facilitate claim processing. Familiarity with medical office procedures and healthcare reimbursement processes. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple claims efficiently. Effective communication skills for coordinating with clinical staff, insurance companies, and patients. Prior experience in medical collection efforts within a healthcare setting is highly desirable.
