Job Title:
Robot Data Collector Job Description The Robot Data Collector operates humanoid robots using virtual reality teleoperation systems to generate high-quality training data for AI and motion control. Wearing a VR headset and handheld controllers, you will guide the robot through real-world manipulation and locomotion tasks in a structured lab environment. You will follow detailed procedures, support evolving processes, and ensure that each data collection session meets quality and safety standards. Responsibilities Operate a humanoid robot through designated task scenarios using a VR headset and handheld controllers. Execute structured data collection sessions by following scene setup instructions provided by the engineering team. Stage, arrange, and reset physical props and the workspace between collection runs to maintain consistency. Monitor the quality of collected data in real time and promptly flag anomalies, equipment issues, or unexpected behavior. Log session outcomes, observations, and issues using the provided tracking and logging tools. Follow all lab safety protocols while working in close proximity to active robotic systems. Contribute to daily and weekly data volume targets by completing assigned sessions efficiently and accurately. Perform repetitive physical tasks with consistency and focus throughout the duration of each shift. Communicate clearly with the team to report problems, suggest improvements, and ensure accurate documentation of each session. Essential Skills Comfort wearing and operating a VR headset for extended periods (3+ hours per session) without motion sickness. Strong hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness for precise teleoperation of the robot. Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks with consistency and focus over a full shift. Positive attitude toward structured, goal-driven work in an environment where processes are still evolving. Ability to stand and move for up to 6 hours per day. Ability to lift and reposition props weighing up to 30 lbs. Full range of motion in arms and hands to perform light manipulation tasks. Clear verbal and written communication skills for flagging issues and completing detailed session logs. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in a professional lab, warehouse, or manufacturing setting. Prior VR gaming or professional VR experience. Experience as a teleoperation operator, motion capture subject, or robot trainer. Familiarity with Jira or other issue tracking tools. Exposure to Linux or basic command line usage. Why Work Here? You will contribute directly to the advancement of cutting-edge humanoid robotics and AI by helping shape how robots learn to move and interact in real industrial environments. The role offers the opportunity to work with innovative virtual reality teleoperation systems in a structured lab setting, with clear goals and measurable impact. As processes continue to evolve, you will have the chance to grow your skills in a forward-looking technology environment while collaborating with a focused and supportive team. Work Environment This is a contract, shift-based role in a structured lab environment focused on humanoid robot data collection. You will work on-site, wearing a VR headset and using handheld controllers to teleoperate robots through physical tasks. The work involves standing, walking, and performing light manipulation tasks for extended periods, as well as lifting and repositioning props up to 30 lbs. You will operate near active robotic systems and must follow all lab safety protocols. The environment is goal-driven, process-oriented, and may evolve over time as tools, procedures, and data collection methods are refined. #AerojobsCA26 Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Jose, CA.
