Des Moines, Iowa (This position must be located in Des Moines) The University of Michigan is conducting a research study focused on healthy relationships and sex trafficking prevention among high school students in Des Moines Public Schools. The study is called Project LIVE (see below). We are hiring Data Collectors to support this work. Full-time and part-time positions are available .Background :
Using a five-year grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), researchers and community partners will collaborate to deliver the READY to Stand Curriculum to high school students and school personnel in Des Moines, Iowa. The project aims to prevent sex trafficking in Des Moines Public Schools (DMPS). This will be achieved, in part, by increasing students' skills for healthy relationships, and by helping students identify personal safeguards to enable them to act if they feel unsafe. The curriculum, developed by The Set Me Free Project, was implemented in Des Moines high schools beginning in 2023, and will later expand to reach students in six additional high schools. Responsibilities• Complete required ethical and project training as a satisfactory level. Engage with the local Des Moines community at the direction of the University of Michigan research team. Attend school and community events to share information about the project. Recruit and enroll participants via phone, email, and home visits. Collect data at high schools and community events. Enter collected data accurately and promptly. Support research implementation tasks as assigned. Collaborate with the University of Michigan team based in Des Moines. Participate in virtual tasks as designated; in-person availability is required for scheduled activities. Mix of part-time and full-time work is possible August to December depending on schedule, skill level, and experience. Opportunities for senior data collector leadership are possible dependent on skills and experience. Required Qualifications• High school diploma or equivalent experience. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage students and families. Experience with Microsoft Office. Demonstrated interest or experience in community- and school-based engagement or research. Knowledge of research ethics and familiarity with the Des Moines School System. Ability to work independently and solve problems as needed and to follow direction of project staff. Desired Qualifications• Coursework or a bachelor's degree in psychology, public health, social work, or a related field, plus one (1) year of experience doing similar work. Experience with community- and school-based research and/or working in school settings in any capacity. Teaching/facilitation experience. Multilingual abilities.
