• Under direct supervision, operates a scanner imaging tax returns and checks for data capture and storage purposes.

Rescans returns that have been rejected by the system. Keys data into the Fairfax and GenTax systems using given documentation and various systems/software to be uploaded and distributed to appropriate units, agencies, and department heads. Verifies and balances check MICR line information according to supplied documentation. Verifies data previously entered for accuracy. Manually reclassifies tax returns that were incorrectly coded utilizing a set of specific parameters. Reviews documents with issues that would cause delays in processing or have special handling rules. When necessary, assist in the retrieval of tax documents from outside sources (satellite offices, post office, other divisions, etc.) This requires a valid driver's license and use of a state vehicle. Assists in the sorting of tax documents to be disbursed to employees for processing. Assists in the processing of tax documents to be batched and delivered to the scanners for scanning into the system. Maintains taxpayer confidentiality to adhere to IRS regulations. This is a production-intensive environment that requires the ability to maintain speed while also maintaining accuracy. Requires sitting or standing for long periods of time. Must stay updated on knowledge of all tax forms and other documents, laws, rules, and procedures for processing each form to ensure proper completion of tasks. Performs related work as required. Overtime is required during peak tax season. Employment requires a fingerprint-based criminal-background check to be provided at the West Virginia Tax Division's expense. Failing to initiate the process or cooperate with this process, providing false or incomplete information, or discovery of disqualifying information will result in denial of, or dismissal from, employment or denial of transfer irrespective of when discovered. The chosen applicant will also be subject to a tax compliance check.

Training:

Graduation from a standard four-year high school or equivalent.

Experience:

One year of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in data entry or transcribing dictation.

Substitution:

(1) Completion of twelve hours in computer coursework from an accredited college or university OR (2) Completion of four courses in data processing, data entry and/or word processing from an accredited business or vocational school may substitute through an established formula for the required experience.
