Screens patients to determine eligibility for third-party resources by analyzing their income, assets, household composition, and physical conditions. Applies government rules to present cases to programs like SSA, DCF, SSI, Medicare, and Disability. Communicates effectively with patients to ensure understanding of health program processes. Meets patients or representatives in designated locations to apply for financial assistance programs, explaining eligibility, application, and verification requirements. Facilitates the application process by assisting with forms, scheduling interviews, and obtaining verifications. Represents patients at Immigration Services, Social Security Administration, Vital Statistics, and Attorney offices due to illness. Maintains communication with adoption agencies, foster care programs, and adult care programs for pending cases. Responsible for timely intervention and escalating issues to the manager. Maintains and updates knowledge of policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. Shares knowledge of technical requirements for hearings on denied cases and overturning decisions with case management and revenue cycle department members. Monitors patient accounts to ensure timely processing and enters account notes and status codes on web applications. Adheres to HIPAA compliance and security regulations, accessing and releasing PHI minimally as necessary. Other duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Substantive knowledge of the Medical Assistance application process [Required]
- Understanding of HIPAA privacy rules and adroit ability to use discretion when discussing patient related information that is confidential in nature as needed to perform duties [Required]
- Working knowledge of Microsoft programs and familiarity with database programs [Required]
- Ability to operate general office equipment such as computers, facsimiles, copiers, scanners [Required]
- Skill in speaking clearly and distinctly using appropriate vocabulary and grammar to obtain the information necessary to execute job responsibilities [Required]
- Skill in reading documents written in standard English text such as administrative policy and procedures manuals [Required]
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing [Required]
- Ability to follow complex instructions and procedures, with a close attention to detail [Required]
- Ability to effectively learn and perform multiple tasks, and organize work in a systematic and efficient fashion [Required]
- Ability to be responsive to ever-changing matrix of hospital needs and act accordingly [Required]
- Availability of reliable transportation for scheduled field visits [Required]
- Successful completion of Financial Advocate training course (approx.
Education:
- Bachelor's [Preferred]
Field of Study:
- in Social Services, Health Science, or a related field
Work Experience:
- 2+ of college or two (2) years business, social services, health care, or related experience or comparable combination of education, related experience, and/or training [Required]
- 2+ related experience in oncology or specialty pharmacy (cost center 4997 only) [Preferred]
- 5+ working experience with dcf, ssa or ahca in eligibility enrollment programs [Preferred]
