Oncology Billing & Authorization Specialist Location:

Position Summary The Oncology Billing & Authorization Specialist is responsible for obtaining and managing prior authorizations for hematology/oncology treatments, chemotherapy, and specialty medications. This role works closely with providers, clinical teams, and insurance payers to ensure timely approvals, accurate documentation, and uninterrupted patient care. Key Responsibilities Obtain and manage prior authorizations for oncology treatments, chemotherapy, and related services Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, and coverage Coordinate with physicians, nurses, and pharmacy staff to collect clinical documentation Communicate with insurance payers to resolve authorization issues Manage appeals and peer-to-peer reviews for denied services Track authorization status and follow up on pending requests Enter and maintain accurate authorization and insurance data in EMR systems Ensure compliance with payer requirements, HIPAA, and internal policies Assist patients with understanding insurance coverage and financial responsibility (financial counseling a plus) Required Qualifications Minimum 2 years of experience in medical billing or insurance authorization, preferably in oncology Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes Working knowledge of chemotherapy treatments and oncology services Experience with appeals, peer-to-peer reviews, insurance eligibility, and verification Proficiency with EMR and practice management systems Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Bilingual required: English/Spanish or English/Creole Preferred Qualifications Billing or coding certification (CPC, CMC, CMRS) Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers Financial counseling experience (preferred, not required)
