at Banterra Corp in Marion, Illinois, United States Job Description SUMMARY The Garnishment & Levy Specialist is responsible for managing court‑ordered and government‑mandated account actions, including garnishments, levies, subpoenas, and related legal service. This specialist ensures required research, account actions, responses, notifications, and documentation are completed accurately and within mandated deadlines, coordinating with internal teams and external parties as needed. The ideal candidate has prior banking experience, strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a regulated environment. Proficiency with standard banking systems and Microsoft tools is essential. By maintaining compliance and operational integrity, the Garnishment & Levy Specialist safeguards customer accounts and supports the company's financial management. Their diligence reinforces the organization's reputation for reliability and regulatory adherence. All employees are expected to protect the information and assets of the organization through heightened awareness of information security, cybersecurity, and risk management best practices, as well as complying with all applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Receive, log, and track court and government orders (e.g., garnishments, levies, subpoenas, child support orders) to ensure timely and accurate processing. Review incoming orders for validity, completeness, and service requirements, and coordinate clarification with courts, agencies, attorneys, or internal partners as needed. Complete asset and deposit verifications in response to legal orders, subpoenas, and authorized requests, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable requirements. Research customer accounts and records to determine whether funds or accounts are subject to restraint, attachment, disclosure, or exemption. Initiate, maintain, modify, or release account holds and restrictions in accordance with legal requirements and bank procedures, including debit card and overdraft eligibility changes when required. Prepare and submit required responses, interrogatory answers, affidavits, and remittances to courts or agencies within mandated deadlines. Process and remit court‑ordered payments accurately and reconcile all related transactions. Generate and deliver required written notifications to customers regarding court‑ordered account actions. Manage billing and correspondence related to subpoenas and customer account records requests. Communicate with courts, attorneys, agencies, customers, and internal departments to resolve issues, share status updates, and coordinate fulfillment of legal orders. Maintain complete and accurate case files, logs, and documentation to support audits, examinations, and legal review. Monitor statutory and order‑specific deadlines, identifying and escalating compliance risks or exceptions as appropriate. Close and reconcile cases upon completion, ensuring all funds, documentation, system actions, and releases are properly completed. Assume responsibility for special projects and tasks as assigned.
EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent education required. Minimum of one year of experience working in banking required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with internal and external customers at all levels. A positive and proactive approach to work, demonstrating enthusiasm, adaptability, and the ability to maintain composure and professionalism in stressful or adverse conditions. Strong organizational skills and attention detail. Critical thinking skills and the ability to apply sound judgement in decision-making. Ability to accurately and quickly complete standard mathematical calculations, applying concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to analyze and interpret common and specialized financial reports. Proficient computer literacy, including comfort with Microsoft systems and Office Suite. Intermediate typing skills to meet the needs of this position. Current driver's license and reliable transportation with appropriate insurance coverage; additionally, the ability to drive occasionally in the course of performing assigned duties and responsibilities. The ability to work with minimal or no supervision.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's degree preferred.
