Eligibility Specialist III Salary $42,952.00 - $49,400.00 Annually Location Winston-Salem, NC Job Type Full Time Job Number 08816 Department Social Services Division Economic Services Opening Date 03/25/2026 Closing Date 4/5/2026 11:59 PM Eastern Description Benefits Questions General Statement of Duties The Department of Social Services seeks a highly motivated and dependable professional to join our Family Support Services team. This role requires advanced communication and exceptional customer service skills to support the Economic Services Division. The successful candidate will assist the Family Support Services Program Manager in mentoring and supporting Eligibility Specialists. Responsibilities include training staff on county policies and procedures, responding to employee and client inquiries, managing documentation and agency mail, maintaining and covering caseloads, processing cases, and providing additional support as needed. Distinguishing Features This is a fast-paced, dynamic position where responsibilities may shift based on program and agency needs. The role involves offering policy guidance and support to Child Care, Energy, and Work First staff. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in standard computer applications such as Microsoft Office, strong conflict resolution skills, and exceptional organizational abilities. Success in this position requires adaptability, sound judgment, and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, high-volume environment while maintaining accuracy and professionalism. Minimum Education and Experience Graduation from high school or GED and two (2) years of experience as an Eligibility Specialist or Income Maintenance Caseworker or closely related experience in the following programs: Childcare Subsidies, Adult Medicaid, Family and Children's Medicaid, Energy, Medicaid Transportation, Food and Nutrition, Program Integrity, and Work First. A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for all or part of the experience requirement.
Required:
Two years or more experience as an Eligibility Specialist or Income Maintenance Caseworker and two years' experience with NCFAST. Must have exceptional organizational skills, Work independently, Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, Ability to work quickly within deadlines, Have basic knowledge of universal computer technology and general office equipment, Be able to thrive in a team-oriented environment.
