Housing Intake Specialist Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority Alexandria, VA Job Details Full-time 12 hours ago Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance Flexible spending account Paid time off Employee assistance program Vision insurance Retirement plan Qualifications Customer service Yardi Attention to detail Data entry Associate's degree Full Job Description Job Summary Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority (ARHA) is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Housing Intake Specialist to support the intake process for the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program and other applicable housing programs. This position plays a critical role in ensuring timely and accurate processing of new admissions, participant transfers, and portability (port-outs), while maintaining compliance with HUD regulations, agency policies, and program requirements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The position duties and responsibilities listed below describe the general nature and scope of work. Other responsibilities, duties and skills may be required and assigned, as needed. Processes new admissions from the waitlist and verifies full eligibility - income, assets, and household composition - in accordance with HUD regulations and agency policies. Conducts eligibility interviews and provides clear program guidance. Reviews and approves Request for Tenancy Approval packets, leases, and performs rent reasonableness/affordability checks. Prepares and issues vouchers, briefing materials, Housing Assistant Payment contracts, and move-in approvals. Ensures complete and accurate documentation and data entry in the housing system. Manages and determines eligibility for transfers, coordinating internally for smooth relocations. Processes portability requests and coordinates with receiving public housing authorities. Maintains compliant, accurate participant files and supports audits/quality control. Identifies and resolves documentation or eligibility discrepancies. Provides responsive, professional customer service to applicants, participants, and partners. Enters and maintains system data accurately and generates required reports. Meets productivity and performance standards. Qualifications Associate degree in business, social work, human services, public administration, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university and three (3) or more years of experience in property management or low-income housing, community services, social services. An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to fulfill essential position functions will be considered. Strong preference for experience in affordable housing programs (HCV, PH, MR). Familiarity with HUD regulations and program compliance. Excellent attention to detail, communication skills, and ability to manage deadlines. Experience with housing or case management software such as Yardi is a plus. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience working in a public housing authority or similar housing-focused organization. Proficiency with housing management software and electronic data systems.
