Temporary Part-time Position (June-Oct 2026); 20 hours per week; Potential Internship Position Summary Malta House is seeking an organized, energetic, and mission-driven professional to serve as a Special Assistant to the Executive Director. This role may serve as an excellent internship for a college or graduate student interested in nonprofit operations. This unique opportunity offers hands-on experience working alongside the Executive Director of a respected nonprofit organization that provides housing, support, and hope to pregnant and parenting women experiencing homelessness. The successful candidate will gain firsthand exposure to nonprofit leadership, board relations, fundraising, community partnerships, strategic planning, and daily operations. This position is ideal for an individual interested in nonprofit management, public administration, social services, communications, fundraising, or organizational leadership. What You Will Do Working directly with the Executive Director, you will: Help manage schedules, correspondence, and administrative priorities. Assist with board and committee meeting preparation, materials, and follow-up. Support community engagement activities. Assist with special projects and organizational initiatives. Coordinate meetings, events, and communications. Help track projects and ensure deadlines are met. Prepare reports, presentations, and organizational documents. Serve as a resource to help keep daily operations running smoothly What You Will Learn This role provides exposure to: Nonprofit leadership and governance Fundraising and donor relations Program operations Strategic planning Board engagement Community partnerships Organizational management Qualifications We are seeking someone who is willing and able to assist the executive director and executive staff with a wide range of duties.
This individual should be:
Highly organized and dependable. A strong written and verbal communicator. Comfortable managing multiple priorities. Detail-oriented and proactive. Professional, discreet, and trustworthy. Interested in learning how a nonprofit organization operates. Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace. Previous administrative experience is helpful but not required. We welcome applicants with transferable skills, strong organizational abilities, and a desire to learn. Education Bachelor's degree, current college/graduate student, or equivalent experience preferred. Requirements Successful completion of a background check is required. Completion of VIRTUS training and sexual harassment training prior to starting work is preferred; these trainings must be completed within the first week of employment.
Physical requirements:
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds without assistance, walk up and down stairs, sit for prolonged periods at a desk, operate office phones, computers, other office equipment as needed. Compensation $19 per hour. We will also assist an individual who is qualified for an internship with school-required paperwork to help them receive appropriate credits.
