  • G Job Duties The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services seeks a self-motivated, results-oriented individual with an exceptional customer service focus to serve as an Executive Assistant.
This position is responsible for providing executive level support to the Commissioner and other staff in the Commissioner's Office, Office of Policy, Planning and Research, the Agricultural Stewardship Program, and Communications. Responsibilities include independently analyzing, prioritizing, and expediting daily issues, correspondence and assignments received by the Commissioner's Office; acting as a liaison between the Commissioner's Office, Agency management and officials from federal, state and local governments to facilitate effective communication and exchange of information; utilizing technical knowledge to respond to inquiries from the public; coordinating meetings and travel arrangements; planning and scheduling appointments and activities for the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner; maintaining staff assignment and project tracking systems and assigning responsibility for action; screening and directing phone calls and visitors; and ensuring effective functioning of the Commissioner's office. This position is office based and requires daily in person presence. Occasional intermittent telework opportunities may be considered infrequently. Minimum Qualifications Comprehensive knowledge of current office practices and procedures as related to those of an executive office are needed in addition to exceptional interpersonal, teamwork and customer service skills and effective oral and written communication skills to include proper use of grammar, spelling and punctuation. Computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint are also necessary along with the ability to establish effective working relationships with diverse groups; to handle sensitive and confidential information; to analyze, organize, prioritize, expedite and track workloads; to exercise sound judgement and to interact professionally with agency staff, government officials and the public. Proven current or recent executive-level administrative experience which includes interpreting and applying policies and procedures, making travel arrangements and planning itineraries, and working independently while exercising sound judgment and superior decision-making skills. H.S. Diploma/GED Required. Additional Considerations A combination of related education, training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge, skills, and abilities with current/recent experience in a similar position within a Virginia state government office including making travel arrangements, preparing reimbursements, and performing procurement at the executive level.
