Job Description

Background:
We The Fighters is a new, ambitious field program to directly contact voters in key Congressional districts who are most impacted by the devastating budget cuts included in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and passed by Congress last summer. In Michigan's 7th Congressional District, we will be organizing working-class voters across the district through door-to-door canvassing, phone banking, texting, and digital storytelling. This program is rooted in the belief that the people impacted by these cuts must be directly engaged, invited into action, and supported to lead. "We The Fighters" seeks to engage an independent contractor to provide field organizing services in Michigan's 7rd Congressional District. This is a fixed-term independent contractor engagement anticipated to run from July 1, 2026 through November 20, 2026, subject to the terms of a written independent contractor agreement. Scope of Services / Expected Deliverables. Provide services to identify, orient, and support volunteer leaders consistent with mutually agreed program goals. Design and coordinate canvassing opportunities and volunteer deployment plans, with contractor retaining discretion over the manner and means of performing the services. Provide agreed volunteer recruitment and orientation services for canvassing events, including on-site support as mutually scheduled. Use or support approved voter-contact tools as necessary to meet compliance, data-security, and program reporting requirements. Provide periodic deliverable reports, including volunteer participation and voter-contact metrics, in a format reasonably requested by We The Fighters. Coordinate with We The Fighters' designated point of contact regarding program objectives, compliance requirements, and deliverable reporting. Perform services in a professional manner consistent with the program's stated values and applicable campaign/advocacy standards. Key Qualities Passion for organizing and working with diverse, working-class community members; Demonstrated ability to independently perform organizing, outreach, volunteer coordination, or comparable community-engagement services; Experience or demonstrated ability to communicate with members of the public by text, phone, and in person; Ability to independently adapt work plans to changing field conditions while meeting agreed deliverables; Ability to provide volunteer orientation and field support as part of contracted services; Strong follow-through and attention to detail; Preferred contractor qualifications include familiarity with Michigan's 7th Congressional District and its communities. Requirements Voter contact is most effective when voters are available, contractors should be able to schedule services during high-contact periods, including evenings and weekends, as needed to meet agreed deliverables. The contractor will determine the manner and means of performing the services, subject to agreed event schedules and compliance requirements. Contractor is expected to furnish their own equipment and resources necessary to perform the services, including phone, laptop, transportation, valid driver's license, and vehicle/insurance as applicable. Prior organizing, campaign, canvassing, volunteer-coordination, or comparable outreach experience preferred. Contractor should be able to perform the services independently with limited direction. Compensation $4,000/mo. ; Compensation will be based on agreed deliverables, project milestones, or an agreed service fee under the independent contractor agreement. Contractor is responsible for ordinary business expenses, including transportation, unless specific expenses are pre-approved in writing and included in the contractor agreement. Pre-approved mileage may be reimbursed or incorporated into the contractor's fee, subject to documentation requirements.
