Job Description We are seeking a Field Interviewer to join our team supporting the National HIV Behavioral Surveillance project funded by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. The ideal candidate will have experience in field-based interviewing, HIV testing and counseling, and community engagement and a proven ability to collect high-quality data, maintain participant confidentiality, and support study operations .
Responsibilities:
Learn and follow study protocol. Conduct in-depth screenings and structured interviews using tablet computers. Complete training for HIV testing and counseling and administer sessions with participants. Communicate clearly during face-to-face interviews, including sensitive topics such as sexual behavior histories and drug use. Provide referrals to medical and social services as needed. Maintain detailed physical and digital records to support data reporting. Meet regularly with MDPH staff and the field team to resolve issues and support program development. Collaborate with field site personnel to ensure smooth project scheduling. Assist in developing project materials, including interview guides, recruitment materials, and funder reports, in compliance with MDPH IRB and partner agency requirements. Participate in required CDC trainings, national calls, and conference calls. Support participant scheduling and secure participant record-keeping. Assist with data analysis and dissemination of findings. Contribute to recruitment efforts and develop strategies to increase participation. Conduct street observations and community interviews to identify potential participants. Meet departmental participation expectations and adhere to policies and procedures. Participate in quality assessment and improvement activities. Maintain participant confidentiality at all times. Follow established safety policies and crisis management protocols. Attend required meetings, in-services, and professional trainings. Maintain professional competence necessary to perform job responsibilities. Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
English fluency. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and responsible self-starter. Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in fast-paced, multi-cultural environments. Availability for evening and weekend hours as fieldwork requires.
Preferred Skills:
Knowledge of HIV and AIDS. Experience conducting face-to-face interviews. Experience working with communities of color.
Schedule & Work Environment:
Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, in-person. Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM, with flexibility. Hours may shift to evenings and weekends once data collection begins. Based in the Boston area with local travel.
Physical Requirements:
Sit at a computer station or stand at a counter for extended periods. Keyboard for extended periods. Stand for extended periods.
