Job Description
Forensic Interviewer (.5 FTE) Position Description Position Summary The Forensic Interviewer conducts recorded interviews with children and vulnerable adults, utilizing methods that are both legally sound and developmentally appropriate. Working in close partnership with investigative teams and community-based organizations, the interviewer supports clients, families, and multidisciplinary team members by facilitating referrals to community resources. They collect information about children and families that is pertinent to human services, criminal, and medical assessments. The primary office is the Sheboygan Child Advocacy Center at 1817A N. 8th Street in Sheboygan, with responsibilities to cover the Saukville branch of Lakeshore CAC as needed. Supervision is provided by the Forensic Interview Program Supervisor and the Sheboygan CAC Manager. This position is compensated hourly and is eligible for paid holidays and paid time off on a pro-rata basis. Essential Functions Conduct thorough interviews with children and vulnerable adults who are suspected victims or witnesses of abuse or other crimes, using appropriate forensic interview techniques. Maintain documentation of all interviews in accordance with agency policy. Provide testimony in court proceedings when required. Participate actively in multidisciplinary team meetings. Collaborate with all Lakeshore CAC team members to ensure coordinated services. Educate team members as needed regarding child development, the effects of abuse, and interview techniques. Provide coverage across all Lakeshore CAC locations as required. Adhere to the APSAC (Association of Professionals Solving the Abuse of Children) Code of Ethics. Perform other duties as assigned. Skills Required Bachelor's degree in social work, criminal justice, psychology, or a related field. At least two years of professional experience in child abuse investigations. Training and experience in forensic interviewing of children are preferred. Experience in crisis management and the ability to remain comfortable in potentially confrontational situations. Strong skills in establishing professionally appropriate relationships with children referred for evaluation. Ability to work effectively with families from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Advanced interpersonal abilities for effective communication and collaboration with multidisciplinary team members and representatives from various external agencies.
