Job Description

We are seeking a full-time Legal Secretarey on-site in our Detroit, MI office. This individual will be primarily responsible for assigned duties such as the following: Assists in preparation of legal documents, correspondence, memoranda, and briefs. Types, transcribes, revises and proofreads legal documents accurately, prioritizes assignments, and meets specific deadlines on projects. Reviews and edits documents for accuracy and arranges for timely filing of documents. Prepares expense reports, check requests and reimbursement requests. Performs caseload and database management of files and extensive e-filing in State and Federal Courts. Assembles, organizes and prepares documents for filing into our document management system. Coordinates client billing matters; assists with client billing process. Input attorneys' time entries into our billing system. Coordinates schedules; arranges meetings and reserves conference rooms. Makes travel arrangements and prepares itineraries. Processes all mail, both postal mail and emails; reviews and routes incoming mail; prepares and processes outgoing mail, arranging for specialized mail or messenger services as required. Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Must have a minimum High School Diploma/GED. Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and excellent computer, organizational, spelling, grammar, and time management skills. Knowledge of the complete litigation process. Knowledge of electronic filing in State and Federal Courts. Ability to docket and follow-up on court dates. Ability to work with digital dictation software. Ability to work and manipulate PDF and Word documents; familiar with redlining and comparing documents. Ability to proofread typed material for errors. Ability to communicate both orally and written effectively, courteously, and professionally with all firm employees, clients, and visitors. Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints and work overtime, as necessary. Ability to work collaboratively in a team; proactively demonstrate teamwork and communication with team members and all Firm personnel. Ability to work autonomously and with discretion. Ability to handle a very busy desk with multiple projects.
