Job Description

McDonald Carano LLP is seeking a full-time Legal Secretary to join our Employment & Labor Law practice group in Reno, with a primary focus on workers' compensation matters. Our firm has two office locations, in Reno and Las Vegas, supporting Nevada's business law needs since 1949. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced legal environment and brings strong experience supporting attorneys in workers' compensation and employment-related matters before the Nevada Department of Administration and state courts. The successful candidate will play a critical role in case organization, document preparation, and day-to-day attorney support while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Provide comprehensive administrative and legal support to attorneys specializing in workers' compensation and employment & labor law. Manage, organize, and maintain case files, including pleadings, correspondence, medical records, discovery, and court filings. Assist in the preparation of legal documents, such as pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and other case-related materials. Coordinate and maintain communication with clients, insurance carriers, medical providers, court personnel, and other parties involved in workers' compensation cases. Schedule and manage attorney calendars, including hearings, depositions, mediations, and deadlines. Assist attorneys in preparation for hearings, trials, mediations, and settlement conferences. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive client information and adhere to ethical standards. Perform additional administrative and legal support tasks as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years of experience as a legal secretary or legal assistant; experience in employment & labor law or workers' compensation is strongly preferred. Working knowledge of workers' compensation procedures, terminology, and filings; familiarity with Nevada rules and agencies is a plus. Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Strong written and verbal communication skills. High level of accuracy and attention to detail in document preparation and case management. Proficiency in using legal software and Microsoft Office suite. Ability to apply new resources and technologies. Ability to work independently while contributing as part of a team. Professional demeanor and ability to maintain an organized, polished work environment.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
