Job Description
We are a prominent Hudson Valley based law firm seeking a full-time Legal Secretary to join our team. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented legal professional who is organized, client-focused, and able to manage sensitive matters independently in a fast-paced law firm environment. Duties include, but are not limited to: Handling Infant's Compromise matters from start to finish Reviewing case files, including: Description of infant's injury Settlement amount Current condition of the infant Collecting and organizing exhibits required for Infant's Compromise submissions Coordinating with settlement brokers for structured settlement proposals, when applicable Drafting Infant's Compromise paperwork, including: Guardian's Affidavit Attorney Affirmation Proposed Order Infant's Affidavit (when the infant is over age 14) Coordinating execution of affidavits with parents/guardians Electronically filing all documents with the court Performing basic settlement calculations, including: Attorney's fees Net proceeds to the plaintiff (Simple math; tools or calculators may be used) If the candidate demonstrates proficiency with Infant's Compromise matters, they may also be assigned Wrongful Death cases, which involve a similar process and calculation components.
Qualifications and Skills:
Applicants ust be professional and client service-oriented. They will be able to accomplish tasks within time constraints and possess excellent computer skills. Additionally, applications should be organized, attentive to detail, and have strong time management skills. The ability to multi-task and work independently is essential. A Bachelor's Degree and/or a Paralegal certificate is required; 3 to 5 years of prior Wills, Real Estate, law firm, etc. experience is also required. Bi-lingual (Spanish) a plus.
