Initial onboarding/build phase: Approximately 5-7 hours per week Ongoing commitment: Approximately 3-5 hours per week, with flexibility based on Board meetings, committee work, and organizational priorities. Help Build the Governance Foundation That Supports Lasting Community Impact Rise Together is a growing nonprofit dedicated to empowering single-parent families, families with disabilities, and underserved communities through access to resources, education, partnerships, and opportunity. As we continue building our organizational foundation, we are seeking a Board Secretary | Governance & Legal Coordination to join our Board of Directors. This volunteer governance position is ideal for a highly organized professional who is passionate about nonprofit governance, organizational excellence, and building strong systems that support long-term impact. The Board Secretary serves as one of the Board's key governance leaders, helping ensure effective Board operations, sound governance practices, regulatory compliance, and organizational accountability. Working closely with the Board Chair, Vice Chair, Executive Director, fellow Board members, and Leadership Team, this role helps establish the governance framework that enables Rise Together to grow responsibly while remaining mission-focused. Position Overview The Board Secretary is responsible for supporting the Board of Directors by maintaining accurate governance records, coordinating Board activities, and ensuring effective communication and documentation across the organization. In addition to traditional Board Secretary responsibilities, this role provides governance and legal coordination by helping maintain corporate records, supporting compliance requirements, coordinating organizational documentation, and assisting with governance processes that promote transparency, accountability, and long-term sustainability. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys creating structure, improving organizational processes, and supporting leadership through thoughtful planning and execution. Key Responsibilities Board Governance & Administration Coordinate Board meetings, agendas, and meeting logistics. Prepare and distribute Board meeting materials. Record and maintain accurate Board meeting minutes and official records. Maintain Board resolutions, governance documents, and organizational policies. Track Board action items and follow up on governance-related decisions. Governance & Legal Coordination Maintain organized corporate records and governance documentation. Support compliance with nonprofit governance requirements and annual filings. Coordinate governance-related documentation with legal counsel and leadership, as appropriate. Maintain current bylaws, Board policies, committee charters, and governance records. Assist with Board member onboarding and governance orientation. Organizational Coordination Coordinate communications between the Board of Directors and Leadership Team. Maintain secure and organized digital governance files. Help improve governance workflows and document management processes. Support committee coordination and special governance initiatives. Leadership & Collaboration Serve as an active member of the Board of Directors. Partner closely with the Board Chair and Executive Director to support effective Board operations. Participate in governance discussions and strategic planning. Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Qualifications We're looking for someone with experience in one or more of the following: Board administration or governance Executive or administrative support Corporate governance or nonprofit administration Project or operations coordination Legal administration, paralegal support, or compliance coordination (preferred) Records management and document control Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, or similar collaboration platforms Experience working with nonprofit organizations is preferred but not required.
