In this vital role, you will be responsible for accurately processing ophthalmology-related medical billing and coding, ensuring timely reimbursement and maintaining seamless financial operations. Your expertise will help optimize revenue cycles by managing claims submissions, follow-ups, and medical record documentation with precision and efficiency. Responsibilities Review and code ophthalmology procedures using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards. Assign appropriate diagnosis codes utilizing ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding systems to support claims submissions. Prepare and submit clean claims to insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid, and other payers efficiently. Follow up on unpaid or rejected claims through effective medical collection strategies to maximize revenue recovery. Maintain detailed and organized medical records, including documentation of billing activities, patient information, and insurance correspondence. Stay updated on changes in DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications, coding guidelines, and insurance policies affecting ophthalmology billing. Collaborate with medical office staff to verify patient information, insurance details, and ensure proper documentation for billing purposes. Requirements Proven experience in medical billing within an ophthalmology or specialized medical practice environment. Strong knowledge of medical coding including CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG systems. Familiarity with EMR (Electronic Medical Records) and EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems used in ophthalmology clinics. Excellent understanding of medical terminology related to eye care procedures and diagnoses. Ability to navigate insurance policies and perform effective medical collection efforts. Prior experience working with medical office workflows, billing software, and electronic claim submission platforms. Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
