In this vital role, you will be responsible for accurately processing medical claims, managing patient billing, and ensuring timely reimbursement from insurance companies and patients alike. Your attention to detail and knowledge of medical coding and billing procedures will directly impact our ability to deliver exceptional patient care while maintaining operational efficiency. This position offers an engaging environment where your skills in medical terminology, coding systems, and electronic health record (EHR) systems will be valued and utilized daily. Responsibilities Prepare and submit accurate insurance claims using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) coding standards to ensure proper reimbursement. Review medical records and documentation to verify coding accuracy and compliance with insurance requirements. Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective communication with insurance providers and patients to resolve discrepancies or issues. Maintain detailed records of billing activities, payments received, and outstanding balances within electronic medical record (EMR) or EHR systems. Assist in the collection of overdue accounts through courteous communication with patients while adhering to privacy regulations. Stay current with updates in medical coding guidelines, insurance policies, and billing regulations to ensure compliance. Collaborate with administrative staff to streamline billing processes and improve overall revenue cycle management. Qualifications Proven experience in medical billing with a strong understanding of medical coding including CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, DRG, and ICD coding systems. Familiarity with medical terminology, medical records management, and healthcare documentation standards. Experience working with EMR/EHR systems for billing and record keeping purposes. Knowledge of medical collection procedures and patient account management. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently. Excellent communication skills for interacting with insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients. Prior experience in a medical office environment is highly preferred.
