This role will work closely alongside our Lead Billing Specialist to support billing operations, denial management, insurance follow-up, and collections workflows. The ideal candidate is organized, tech-savvy, proactive, and experienced in navigating medical billing systems and payer portals with minimal supervision. Duties Prepare and submit medical claims using appropriate coding systems such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications. Review medical records and documentation to ensure proper coding accuracy for billing purposes. Follow up on unpaid or denied claims promptly, communicating with insurance companies to resolve discrepancies. Manage patient accounts by verifying insurance coverage, explaining billing procedures, and collecting payments or setting up payment plans. Maintain detailed records of all billing transactions, claim submissions, and collections activities within Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems. Stay current with industry regulations and coding updates to ensure compliance with healthcare standards. Collaborate with medical office staff to ensure accurate documentation and facilitate smooth billing processes. Skills Strong knowledge of medical coding including CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG classifications. Proficiency in medical billing procedures and collection strategies within a healthcare setting. Experience working with EMR/EHR systems for managing medical records and billing data. Excellent understanding of medical terminology and healthcare documentation standards. Ability to analyze insurance claims, identify issues, and implement effective resolution strategies. Effective communication skills for interacting with patients, insurance providers, and healthcare staff. Familiarity with medical office operations and procedures related to billing and collections.
