Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Collections Specialist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for working with the medical billing and collections processes, ensuring accurate and timely recovery of outstanding balances. This role requires a strong understanding of medical coding, billing procedures, and effective communication with insurance companies and patients. The position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic healthcare environment. Duties Contact insurance companies and patients to follow up on unpaid or overdue accounts Review and analyze medical records, billing statements, and insurance claims to identify discrepancies or issues Ensure accurate coding using DRG, CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding standards for proper claim submission Resubmit corrected claims as necessary to facilitate prompt payment Maintain detailed documentation of collection activities within EMR/EHR systems Collaborate with medical office staff to verify patient information and resolve billing issues Monitor aging reports and prioritize accounts based on collection status Stay updated on changes in healthcare regulations, coding standards, and payer policies Requirements Proven experience in medical billing and collections within a healthcare setting. Experience with ambulatory surgery centers helpful. Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and coding (DRG, CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10) Familiarity with EMR and EHR systems for documentation and claim processing Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with insurance providers and patients Ability to interpret complex medical records and coding guidelines accurately Experience with medical office procedures and revenue cycle management is preferred Attention to detail with strong organizational skills to manage multiple accounts efficiently Knowledge of healthcare compliance standards and privacy regulations is a plus
