About the Organization Beaufort Memorial, a not-for-profit hospital founded in 1944 on the banks of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, is licensed for 201 beds (169 acute, 14 rehabilitation and 18 mental health). We are an acute-care hospital, a regional referral center and the largest medical facility between Savannah, Ga., and Charleston, S.C. Position PFS Patient Financial Billing Representative Location Beaufort Memorial Hospital Full-Time/Part-Time Full-Time Shift Days Exempt/Non-Exempt Non-Exempt Description This position is internally referred to as PFS (Patient Financial Services) Billing Representative. As part of the Patient Financial Services team, you will help protect the financial stability of the hospital by ensuring timely and accurate follow-up on insurance claims. The work performed helps reduce outstanding balances, resolve insurance-related issues, and support overall revenue cycle performance. This role requires strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and a commitment to professionalism and patient confidentiality. Key Responsibilities Follow up on outstanding insurance claims to ensure timely reimbursement Contact insurance companies to verify claim status and resolve payment issues Review denied claims and identify root causes of denials Prepare and submit appeals with complete and accurate documentation Document all follow-up actions clearly within the billing system Collaborate with coding and billing teams to correct claim errors Monitor aging reports and prioritize high-value or time-sensitive accounts Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and payer guidelines Support continuous improvement initiatives within the revenue cycle department Perform other duties as assigned within the Patient Financial Services team Position Requirements Required Qualifications High school graduate or equivalent Experience with insurance claims follow-up and denial management Working knowledge of insurance processes, including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers Ability to manage accounts receivable and iTwo (2) years of experience in hospital billing/collections or medical billing/collections Preferred Qualifications Two (2) years of experience in hospital billing/collections or medical billing/collections Familiarity with CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding systems Experience working with hospital billing systems and/or electronic health record platforms Deep knowledge of payer requirements and denial resolution strategies Core Competencies Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Clear written and verbal communication skills Organized and structured approach to work Ability to work independently Demonstrated professionalism and ability to function effectively under pressure Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality at all times EOE Statement Beaufort Memorial Hospital is an equal employment opportunity employer.
