The Court Clerk II classification performs a variety of clerical tasks related to court cases. Duties may include providing customer service in person or by phone; explaining court processes to members of the public; scanning and creating case files; generating and processing dockets/documents/discovery/subpoenas; reading and interpreting court documents/defendant notices/computer printouts or case files; accessing, reading, and interpreting case-related information from data and/or image computer systems; entering and updating computer records from source documents or customer transactions; working with outside agencies; and handling cash. This role will require the ability to perform basic calculations; operate a variety of standard office equipment including a computer, scanners, telephone, calculator, copy machine, and fax machine; have a thorough understanding of alpha filing systems, and strong problem solving, organizational, and communication skills. Moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds may be required. Court Clerk II positions working in the Records Management Sections are responsible for overseeing all Court records. Duties may include assisting the public at Records Management front counters, preparing files for courtrooms, filing Court case files, responding to public records requests, certifying documents, preparing, and scanning files for archiving, corresponding with the public in writing and telephonically, destruction of case files pursuant to the retention schedule, accepting filings, managing Court audio recordings, processing appeals, auditing case files, data entry, and other duties as assigned. Court Clerk II positions working in the Call Center Section respond to incoming calls to the Court in a traditional call center setting. Clerks answer a high volume of calls that include general information questions, researching specific case information, routing calls to the appropriate courtroom or section, receipting payments over the phone, performing data entry, preparing mail to be distributed, and performing other duties as assigned. Currently, there are opportunities in the Municipal Court to fill several positions. Consideration may be given to candidates to underfill as a Court Clerk I. Candidates selected to underfill are promoted to Court Clerk II after completing designated training and successful performance. Candidates interested in both levels should apply to this job.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
Customer focused, able to interact professionally with members of the public, judges, attorneys, and other staff in the legal system. Detail-oriented. Ability to perform clerical tasks that involve legal terminology and processes. Ability to perform basic calculations, operate a variety of standard office equipment including a computer, scanner, telephone, calculator, copy machine, and fax machine, and understand alpha filing systems.
SALARY Court Clerk I Pay:
$19.54 per hour.
Court Clerk II Pay Range:
: $20.51 - $33.41 per hour.
Hiring Range:
$20.51 - $22.61 per hour.

Internal Only:
Please understand that this is pay grade 341. If selected, your salary offer will be based on the applicable promotion or demotion worksheet in accordance with the City Pay Ordinance. Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase. Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease. Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade. When there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Court Clerk I One years of clerical or public contact experience. Court Clerk II Two years of clerical or public contact experience, Including a minimum of one year in a courtroom or law office. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus: Fluent in Spanish (written and oral). Experience with cash handling practices. Experience and interest in working in a call center environment.
