Performs specialized and responsible office support work that requires knowledge of legal terminology and legal clerical procedures; and performs related work as required. About the
Department:
Tehama County Department of Child Support Services is one of 47 local child support agencies in California. The department manages approximately 2,700 child support cases. Providing customers excellent service is a top priority. Staff are trained professionals ready to assist customers in opening a case, establishing a child support order, determining paternity, modifying their order, and enforcing their order.

Processes, maintains, and prepares a variety of legal forms, records, and reports; verifies that information or data is complete, accurate, consistent, and in conformance with prescribed format, procedures, and regulations. Reviews and investigates confidential information from agencies and processes documents related to assignments; interviews affected parties and explains procedures. Receives, assembles, and maintains files and other information related to court actions; updates computer information; maintains court calendars by scheduling and reviewing court dates; and files information or forwards to staff members. Legal Clerk II Legal Clerk I:
EITHER One (1) year of full-time experience as an Office Assistant II; OR Two (2) years of full-time experience performing general clerical work.
Legal Clerk II:
EITHER One (1) year of full-time experience as a Legal Clerk I; OR Two (2) years of full-time experience performing general clerical work in a legal office environment. In addition to the education and experience requirements specified above, Tehama County requires: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
License & Special Requirements:
A valid Class C California driver's license or alternative form of transportation may be required for some positions at the time of appointment. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Due to IRS Publication 1075 Guidelines as established by the Federal Government and required by California Department of Child Support Services, all employees will be subject to a background check at the time of hiring and at least every 5 years. The department is recruiting to fill one (1) vacancy. Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for a Legal Clerk I/II, as well as subsequent vacancies which occur during the life of the eligibility list.
Examination Information:
In addition to meeting minimum qualifications for years of work experience in the field, candidates must complete a Training and Experience Examination. Responses will be evaluated by subject matter experts (e.g., managers of the position). Applicants who provide responses which demonstrate that they possess the requisite job-related education and experience on each exam section will be placed on the eligible list. Applicants must "pass" all three of the below scoring criteria to be placed on the eligible list for an interview. 1.

9 out of 15 points 3. Free Response Pass Points requires at least a 2 point score out of 3 points for each question. Tentative T&E Examination Date(s): Exams will be emailed to candidates meeting minimum qualifications the week of April 6, 2026. •Candidates will have three (3) days to return a completed examination. Interviews are tentatively scheduled for the week of April 13, 2026. •Only the most qualified candidates will be invited to interview. New employees should anticipate being hired at the beginning step of the salary range. Candidates who exceed entry level qualifications may be considered, with approval from the Board of Supervisors, for placement at other than A step.
