The Public Service Assistant (PSA) is a civilian position, intended to augment the sworn member force of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office. PSA's will perform a variety of services that do not require law enforcement authority. PSA'S do not have arrest powers- and will not carry a weapon while performing assigned duties, except OC spray (agency issued - on duty use only).
JOB PREREQUISITES
Must haveputer knowledge. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers Must be able to multi-task Must not be on probation for any reason
WORKING CONDITIONS
Current weekly working schedule is 28 hours per week May be exposed to inclement weather due to related job assignments. Hours may vary depending on assignment May be utilized to assist in calls for service within Putnam County
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES
Serves non-enforceable civil papers to people to appear in court as defendant or as witness Delivers and serves all non-enforceable civil process pursuant to civil law Serves witness subpoenas, summonses, notice of hearing, notice of trial and non-enforceable writs Prepares necessary paperwork relating to the issuance of civil papers Maintains schedule as assigned by supervisor for the serving of civil process Delivers court orders to persons designated by the Court Performs related work as required
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of the laws and ordinances relating to the civil process Knowledge of the geography of the County Knowledge of the procedures used in serving civil process Knowledge of the techniques involved in serving civil papers Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergencies Must possess: A valid Florida Driver License A high school diploma or equivalent Must be able to pass a physical examination and drug screening Must be able to pass a thorough background investigation
Benefits:
Possibly eligible for FRS (Florida Retirement-employees contribute 3% of salary) Salary is $16.75 an hour This position closes on June 19, 2026 at noon All applications are reviewed by the Office of Professional Standards.
