at Kootenai County in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, United States Job Description Probation Duty Clerk Are you highly organized, detail-oriented, and interested in work that directly supports public safety and the justice system? The Adult Misdemeanor Probation Department is seeking a Probation Duty Clerk to play a vital role in the daily operations of our office. This position provides essential administrative and operational support, works closely with probation officers and court staff, and serves as a key point of contact for clients and the public. What We're Looking For:
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED At least 2 years of related administrative experience (or equivalent education/experience) Strong computer skills and attention to detail Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information
Ideal Skills & Qualities:
Professional communication and customer service skills Ability to remain calm, firm, and respectful in challenging situations Proficiency with computers, databases, and office software Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries Flexible availability to meet department needs Must pass the County's pre-employment and subsequent random drug testing and selection process to include: law enforcement criminal background check, fingerprinting, polygraph testing, psychological examination, and credit check.
What You'll Do:
As a Probation Duty Clerk, you'll support the department by handling a wide range of responsibilities, including: Entering and maintaining legal and case documentation in court management systems (Justware, Odyssey, ICourts, Spillman, and others) Serving as the first point of contact for probationers, staff, and the public—checking in clients and directing visitors appropriately Accepting and processing supervision, testing, and monitoring fees; balancing daily deposits Assisting probation officers with case management, reports, court orders, and violation processing Coordinating with court clerks to ensure proper documentation and required signatures Preparing professional correspondence, reports, and confidential documents Scanning, e-filing, and maintaining electronic records Acting as Administrative Supervisor when needed, including payroll processing, invoice handling, and file preparation Using calm communication and de-escalation techniques when interacting with challenging individuals Take a closer look at the full job description to see if this role is the right fit for you.
