Job Description
General Summary Under the supervision of the Construction Code Director, responsible for processing and tracking all permits for Building, Electrical, Mechanical and Plumbing projects. Maintains inspection files. Processes and oversees all documents and correspondence pertaining to each project until the work is completed and approved by this department. Starting pay is dependent on an applicant's relevant experience . •Applications are accepted until there are sufficient numbers of qualified applications or a qualified candidate is identified. This position could close at any time.•Essential Functions Responsible for the processing and filling out of all construction permit applications for building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing projects. Verifies required approvals from other agencies as required by State law prior to processing a permit application. Enters property code and house numbers into the permit system as they are received. Verifies contractor's licenses and oversees the annual registration of all electrical, mechanical and plumbing contractors for the Construction Code Department. Receives inspection requests and tracks status. Maintains permit files once they are activated until the project is completed. Establishes filing system for current and archived files. Prepares month-end reporting for tax assessors and township supervisors and census report to federal government. Oversees weekly mailings of department activity to townships. Receives telephone calls and assists walk in customers by providing them with information regarding codes and the functions of the department. Directs requests and phone calls to other staff or agencies. Directs builders and developers to the appropriate inspector for information as to specific code questions. Oversees the issuance and tracking of Certificates of Completion and Occupancy, violations, stop work orders, correction notices and revoking permits. Provides staff with permit status information as required. Performs clerical duties. This list may not be inclusive of the total scope of job functions to be performed. Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted or modified at any time. Minimum Qualifications High school graduate, or equivalent, with coursework in math and data processing. Two years previous experience including bookkeeping and data processing skills. Prefer experience providing some knowledge of the construction and permit process. Must be an accurate typist with a high typing proficiency.
