Job Description

OFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK
Assistant City Council Committee Clerk (This position is for current active Office of the City Clerk employees only!) Under general supervision, assists in drafting and preparing materials for the Detroit City Council Daily Calendar and Journal and other materials for presentation to the Detroit City Council; and to process City Council actions and resolutions. Receive petitions and requests for petitions to the City Council. Refer petitions to appropriate departments. Draft letters setting forth matters to be resolved and accompanying resolutions for the City Council. Attend Council sessions. Record notes and transcribes minutes at City Council Meetings. Draft summaries of discussions and public hearings and the actions taken. Arrange and proofreads materials related to petitions, etc., for printing a record of the City Council proceedings. Notify petitioners of City Council actions and explains such actions, as necessary. Answer inquiries of citizens concerning Ordinances, Resolutions and similar acts of the City Council and other matters within the jurisdiction of the City Clerk's Office. Qualifications (required): High School diploma or G.E.D. Four (4) years' experience performing important and complex clerical tasks. Qualifications (preferred): Associate's degree.

Licenses, Certifications, and Other Special Requirements:
Willingness to pursue additional training/education that may be offered through the Human Resources Department or required by the Office of the City Clerk. Candidates considered for placement in this classification may be subject to a Criminal Background Investigation based on the requirements of the position. Physical Demands The employee generally remains in a stationary position for an extended period operating standard office equipment which may include computers, telephones, photocopiers, and fax machines. The employee is expected to move about to accomplish tasks such as opening file cabinets and moving files. Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 25 pounds. Work Environment Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Some work requires travel to meetings, conferences, and other work sites with exposure to seasonal weather conditions.
