Job Description:

Responsibilities may include:
handling of sensitive judicial and administrative matters on a daily basis; maintaining court calendar for scheduling cases; preparing files for various court hearings; preparing protective orders; screening calls, mail and visitors and perform all or some of courtroom clerk duties such as testing recording equipment; ensuring proceeding recordings reflect the closing arguments and orders; maintaining all transcripts and recording of proceedings. This position performs complex secretarial and clerical duties is distinguished from those at lower levels by the assignment of decision making responsibilities requiring considerable knowledge and independent judgment.

Salary:
A Judicial Assistant's salary range is $45,007.11 - $54,836.74. Effective July 1st After probation period is completed, the Permanent wage will increase at least 2.5%. Pay rate may be commensurate with education and/or experience within fiscal constraints, if approved. Job Duties 1. Coordinates the schedule of the judge with that of court administration, attorneys, prosecutor's staff, law enforcement officials and others participating in specific cases. 2. Ensures that files and all relevant materials are available for cases as required; reviews documents and ensures that proper signatures are obtained and that documents are distributed to the proper offices or persons. 3. Researches and compiles a variety of informational materials; contacts representatives of various County departments to obtain materials; researches legal specific information to ensure that appropriate documents are provided for judges 'signature. 4. Summarizes information compiled and prepares periodic or specialized reports related to the work of the court. 5. Composes a variety of legal documents, correspondence, reports and forms from drafts, notes, dictated tapes or brief instructions; composes standard correspondence and other materials independently. May take and transcribe dictation, depending upon the judge to which assigned. 6. Organizes and maintains various files; locates information as required for the work of the department; tracks the issuance of official documents; may purge files and/or prepare information for long term storage. 7. Prepares and coordinates protective orders to include verifying information, preparing order and affidavits for the judge. 8. Enters and retrieves data and prepares reports using an on-line or personal computer system; may operate and maintain data base or other automated files and systems. 9. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level. The above classification responsibilities represent only the key areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the business needs of the department.
Requirements/Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED; and 4 years of progressively responsible experience in legal or other administrative support work; or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. All educational credits must be granted from an accredited institution approved by the U.S. Dept. of Education.
Knowledge Requirements:
Applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations; Office administrative and secretarial practices and procedures; Legal terminology, procedures and concepts; Court policies and procedures; Courtroom forms and documents; Customer service principles; Modern office principles and practices; Filing systems; Computers and related software applications.
Skill Requirements:
Maintaining records and files; Assembling and organizing data and information; Composing correspondence independently or from brief instructions; Researching, compiling, and summarizing a variety of informational materials; Operating computers and applicable software applications; Providing customer service; Managing case files; Processing information utilizing established procedures; Preparing reports and forms; Using proper English, grammar, punctuation, and spelling; Using a computer and related software applications; Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
