State of New Hampshire Job Posting Judicial Branch Superior Court Judicial Clerkship Position Two-Year Term:
August 20, 2027, through August 16,2029 Multiple vacancies are available
First Year Salary:
$62,810.80
Second Year Salary:
$65,948.00 Applications accepted through June 20, 2026 First and second round Interviews will be held June 8, 2026 & July 24, 2026 The State of New Hampshire, Judicial Branch, Superior Court has multiple full-time vacancies for Judicial Clerkship. The primary assignments are at courthouses located in Manchester, Brentwood, Concord, Keene, Dover, Laconia. and Haverhill, NH. In addition, you may travel to provide extra coverage and to assist in Lancaster, Newport, and Ossipee, as needed. The New Hampshire Supreme Court will accept applications through June 20, 2026. Applications must include a cover letter, a resume, and a law school transcript, the names of three references with contact information, and a writing sample of no more than ten pages in length. All application materials must be combined into a single PDF file named with your last name and first initial (e.g. SmithJ.pdf) and attached with your electronic application.
Summary :
The Superior Court Law Clerk provides professional legal research, writing, and analytical support to superior court judges and judicial officers. The Law Clerk is responsible for conducting legal research, drafting memoranda and proposed orders, and assisting the Court in the timely and accurate resolution of matters before the Court. The Law Clerk works closely with judges, court staff, and attorneys, and must maintain the highest level of confidentiality, professionalism, and impartiality.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
: Education and Experience Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited American law school in 2027 . Excellent writing and research skills. Admission to the New Hampshire state bar preferred , or eligibility for admission within a specified period . Strong academic credentials, including demonstrated excellence in legal writing and research . Prior judicial or appellate internship , law review, moot court, or comparable experience preferred . Other Requirements Successful completion of a background check, including criminal records and motor vehicle checks. Responsibilities Conducts legal research on civil, criminal, and other matters pending before the Superior Court. Reviews pleadings, motions, exhibits, affidavits , and supporting documentation. Drafts legal memoranda summarizing facts, issues, applicable law, and recommendations for judicial consideration. Assists in the preparation of draft orders and rulings for review by the assigned judge. Analyzes statutes, regulations, case law, court rules, and procedural requirements. Assists judges during hearings, trials, and conferences by researching issues that arise during proceedings. Reviews and verifies legal citations and references for accuracy. Tracks pending legal issues and deadlines to support efficient case flow management. Confers with judges and court personnel regarding case-related legal issues and procedural matters. Maintains strict confidentiality of case materials, judicial deliberations, and sensitive information. K nowledgeable in : Statutory and constitutional laws of New Hampshire Judicial procedures and rules of evidence Appellate procedure in New Hampshire and other jurisdictions Federal constitutional law Ability to : Research and prepare legal memoranda and draft orders Establish and maintain effective working relations with judges, court clerks and other members of the legal profession Recognize and maintain the confidentiality required of law clerks Abide by the ethical code of conduct applicable to law clerks Travel as necessary for trainings and to assist judges at superior courts across
