  • Travers Island, one of the world's premier private clubs, is seeking a dedicated and energetic Tennis Court Maintenance Specialist to ensure the highest quality of tennis court surfaces and surrounding landscapes.
In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing the condition of tennis courts, ensuring they are safe, functional, and visually appealing for players and visitors alike. The Tennis Court Maintenance Specialist is responsible for the daily operation, grooming, and upkeep of 18 courts including 8 hydrocourts, 7 top-watered sprinkler courts, and 3 hard courts. This is a hands-on, physically active role requiring expertise in green clay surface maintenance, irrigation management, and har-tru and hydrocourt repair. The special would ensure consistent playing conditions across all surfaces throughout the tennis season from April to November. During the off-season, they would transition to general grounds or building maintenance. The ideal candidate would have previous experience maintaining Har-Tru, clay, or soft surface tennis courts. They should be familiar with hydrocourts subsurface irrigation system. They should be able to operate a court roller, golf cart, and standard grooming equipment. They should have a strong attention to detail for surface consistency. Physically capable of performing repetitive outdoor maintenance tasks and lifting up to 80lbs. Reliable, punctual, access to transportation to arrive at 6:00 AM sharp daily. Responsibilities Daily Grooming and Court Preparation Execute opening, midday, closing grooming routines across all 15 Har-Tru and hydrocourts including dragging, line sweeping, and surface leveling Redistribute loose top dressing material and smooth court surfaces after play using drag brushes and appropriate grooming tools Monitor and maintain consistent surface saturation across all court types, adjusting protocols for hydrocourts and sprinkler courts Perform menial maintenance tasks for hard courts and assist with court drying as needed Irrigation Management Monitor and adjust water control box levels on all hydrocourt cells to maintain optimal subsurface moisture and consistent playing conditions throughout the day Operate and schedule the top-watered sprinkler system, coordinating watering cycles to keep courts firm, stable, and properly hydrated Respond to weather conditions by adjusting irrigation levels and learning best levels for each box Calcium Chloride Application Apply calcium chloride to court surfaces on a scheduled basis to retain moisture and maintain the proper compaction and traction of the har-tru surface Manage calcium chloride inventory and track application schedules Rolling Operate the court roller to firm and compact surface material as needed; prioritizing rolling in the Spring season, performing daily passes until courts reach optimal compaction Court Repair and Periodic Maintenance Identify and repair divots, low spots, and worn wear areas using scarification, patching, and adding fresh har-tru material Perform scarification of hard or slippery areas, clear drainage channels, inspect and adjust line tapes, and address moss, algae, and weed growth along court perimeters Report any structural or irrigation issues to the
