District Court Advocate/Temporary position Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center - 5.0 Warwick, RI Job Details Full-time From $22 an hour 6 hours ago Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance Flexible spending account Paid time off Vision insurance 403(b) Referral program Qualifications Case documentation in social services Teamwork Supporting legal cases Care documentation Court case file organization Full Job Description The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is seeking a compassionate, organized, and mission-driven District Court Advocate to support survivors of domestic violence and interpersonal violence as they navigate the judicial system. This position plays a critical role in providing trauma-informed advocacy, court accompaniment, safety planning, empowerment-based support, and connection to community resources. The ideal candidate is passionate about victim advocacy, committed to survivor-centered practices, and skilled in navigating complex legal and court systems while maintaining professionalism, empathy, and confidentiality. Key Responsibilities Provide trauma-informed advocacy and emotional support to survivors throughout the district court process, including arraignments, pre-trials, trials, no-contact order hearings, and violation hearings. Educate survivors on their legal rights, court procedures, available protections, and possible case outcomes in an empowering and supportive manner. Assist survivors with completing court documentation, obtaining protective orders, and navigating both first and second hearings. Serve as a liaison between survivors, prosecutors, attorneys, police departments, and court personnel to ensure survivors' voices and concerns are represented. Support survivors in understanding the implications of modifying or vacating no-contact orders while respecting client autonomy and informed decision-making. Provide referrals to shelter, counseling, legal assistance, and other supportive community services. Maintain accurate case documentation, court records, and monthly statistical reporting. Respond to calls regarding court proceedings, legal advocacy, and domestic violence-related concerns. Participate in required training, statewide advocacy meetings, and collaborative partnerships with law enforcement and court personnel. Uphold agency policies while representing the organization with professionalism, compassion, and integrity. Qualifications Experience in victim advocacy, social services, criminal justice, or related field preferred. Knowledge of domestic violence, sexual assault, trauma-informed care, and survivor empowerment models. Strong communication, crisis intervention, and organizational skills. Ability to work effectively within court systems and multidisciplinary environments. Commitment to confidentiality, cultural responsiveness, and survivor-centered advocacy. This position receives supervision and support from the Supervising Court Advocate and the Director of Advocacy Services.

From $22.00 per hour
