SLLDA is an independent non-profit legal organization funded by Salt Lake County and other municipalities for the purpose of protecting the constitutional rights of individuals who are accused of crimes.
Job Description:
Justice Court Legal Assistants at SLLDA support 2 Justice Court Attorneys with a high volume of cases by serving as the first point of contact for their assigned attorneys and providing a full range of client-focused support such as answering phones, transcribing dictation, maintaining case files, and ensuring documents are properly formatted and filed on time so attorneys can focus on case strategy. Primary Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Receive and deliver attorney mail Take calls from clients and leave notes/tasks in File Vine, add voicemails to File Vine Accurate, thorough, and timely case management in File Vine (adding tags, uploading files, closing/archiving, etc) Organize discovery Format, proofread, and file legal documents as appropriate and as directed: Draft and "request for service" for subpoenas to be sent out ROIs and Letter to Request Documents - including determining where to send them Track and follow-up on Competency Requests Submit Records/GRAMA requests Make trial/hearing binders Create transcripts of hearings
Knowledge & Skills Required:
Accurate typing and transcription skills Strong Microsoft Office and web-based application skills Knowledge of legal terminology Excellent attention to detail, proofreading, and grammar skills Ability to efficiently prioritize multiple tasks Ability to work in a cooperative manner and communicate respectfully with attorneys and support staff on every level
Education & Experience Requirements:
High school diploma required; Associate's degree preferred At least 1 year legal experience preferred Notary certification a plus Bilingual a plus
Pay:
$20.00 - $25.00 per hour
