Job Description

Under the direction of the Clerk of Courts, this position provides accounting responsibilities to the Court System; to include management and collection enforcement of the receivables ordered by the Court System and provides assistance/customer service to several county and city departments, state and federal agencies, along with various external agencies, some of which include attorney offices, prison systems, Judges, Judicial staff and the State Court system. Conducts financial functions for the court, using the State provided software (CCAP), which includes issuing and voiding checks, adjustments, monitoring accounts, creating judgements for unpaid fines, conducting research, tracking and accurately entering data.   • Receiving, records and deposits payments, provides financial insights to the Courts, County and constituents; monitors the bank accounts for NSF's, e-payments and disputes; monitors Allpaid credit card payments for disputes and works with agency to resolve issues.   • Ensuring accounts are accurate for M/E process and makes correcting adjustments as necessary Dockets and files returned mail. Receives and responds to various correspondence.   • High school diploma or equivalent and two-year vocational/technical training in bookkeeping/accounting required
  • Two or more years of accounting/bookkeeping/payroll experience preferred, or
  • Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Job-related experience with legal/court systems preferred.
Required Competencies:
Ability to perform basic level of data analysis including the ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize and/or reference data, statutes, and/or guidelines and/or group, rank, investigate and diagnose. Ability to display discretion in determining and referencing such established standards to recognize interactive effects and relationships. Ability to provide guidance, assistance and/or interpretation to others, such as co-workers and the public, on how to apply policies, procedures, and standards to specific situations. Ability to utilize a variety of reference, descriptive and/or advisory data and information such as billing statements, invoices, forms, financial statements, journal entries, state statutes, trial balances, technical operating manuals, procedures, guidelines, and non-routine correspondence. Ability to communicate orally and in writing with supervisor, co-workers, all department staff, various federal, state, county and city offices/agencies, attorneys, internal and external customers and the public. Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; and to calculate percentages and decimals. Interprets instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic or schedule form. Ability to exercise independent judgement to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objective. Ability to exercise judgement, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving the evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.
Working Conditions:
This position routinely operates in a professional office environment, and extensively uses standard office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, scanners, and phones. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to stressful office environment conditions, and graphic details of crimes or victim impact statements. The employee has the potential to encounter unpredictable and violent clients. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of objects weighting five to ten pounds. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
