Job Description

Job Overview Salem Lutheran Church is a congregation of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) located in Salem, Illinois. We are seeking a dependable, organized, and service-minded individual to support the administrative, communication, and ministry needs of our congregation. The Office Manager serves as a key member of the church staff and helps oversee the daily operations of the church office. This position works closely with pastors, church leadership, and preschool staff to support the mission and ministry of Salem Lutheran Church while helping foster a welcoming and Christ-centered environment for members, visitors, and the community. Duties Manage daily church office operations Answers phones, emails, and correspondence Handle calendar management, scheduling appointments, meetings, and coordinating events efficiently Prepare worship folders, announcements, newsletters, and calendars Maintain accurate membership and attendance records through data entry, filing, and document management using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace tools, and Church Management software Manage office supplies inventory, order necessary materials, and ensure the workspace remains organized and functional Support administrative needs for church ministries and preschool programs Maintain confidential records and communications of sensitive information Requirements Strong organizational and administrative skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Workspace (Gmail, Calendar, Drive), and basic computer literacy Excellent phone etiquette with experience managing multi-line phone systems and providing customer support Strong clerical skills including data entry, filing, proofreading, and time management Previous office management or administrative experience preferred Ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail Ability to work independently Associate degree preferred but not required Commitment to professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality Faith Expectations Because this position directly supports the ministry and mission of Salem Lutheran Church, applicants should be practicing Christians whose beliefs and conduct are consistent with the church's mission and values. Preference will be given to applicants who are members in good standing of congregations of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS), though qualified applicants from similar Christian backgrounds will be considered. Pay:
$18.00 - $20.00 per hour
