Likewise, by fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of this role the church office secretary serves to provide continuity and organization within LCW's communications, record keeping, and clerical needs. The primary responsibility of this role is to provide support for pastoral and congregational ministry at Lutheran Church of The Way. Responsibilities Maintain a regular "office presence," 4 Hours each Wednesday and Friday 10:00AM-2:00PM), for a total 8 hours per week Answer phone/check phone messages and direct calls or take messages/route to Pastor or the appropriate person. Keep Pastor informed and immediately updated of any prayer requests received or any sicknesses, deaths, etc. of members and friends of LCW Visitor Follow-Up (Identify and obtain available contact info, and mailing of follow-up letter in coordination with Pastor) Record Sundays and special service attendance in Logbook, and record official acts and services in LCW's Parish Register and church management software Maintain log/list (Who/What/When/Where/Why/How/Etc) of prayer requests included in "Prayers of The Church" for worship Develop and distribute LCW's monthly newsletter, including: Collect and curate article submissions from LCW members, council members, and ministry partners. Update relevant information and dates of activities, birthdays, anniversaries, prayer requests, etc. Maintain a current recipient list. Distribute the monthly newsletter by email, handout, and USPS. Maintain Master Calendar −
Google Calendar:
Internal facility calendar and Public Calendar (Both on LCW's website) −
Hard/Physical Copy:
Located in the narthex. Aid in preparations for Sunday worship service bulletins, including proofreading and printing. Prepare any certificates, bulletins, etc. for special services (excluding weddings) Contact Worship Helpers with reminder of service for the week Distribute weekly congregational email via Mailchimp with Sunday's bulletin and announcements Publish Church Year and Lectionary Calendars, and update worship dates specifically relevant to LCW. Requirements Proficiency in managing office tasks, such as scheduling, filing, and correspondence. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize effectively. Ability to maintain accurate records, including membership databases and official records. Able to manage church calendars, events, and appointments. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact with LCW members, staff, and the public in a professional and courteous manner. Comfortable with answering phones and greeting visitors. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, PowerPoint), Google Suite (Drive, Sheets, Docs, etc.) and other relevant software. Ability to update and maintain the church's website and social media platforms. Familiarity with church management software (e.g., Servant Keeper, Church360) is a plus. High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree preferred. Previous experience in an administrative or secretarial role, preferably in a church or non-profit setting, ideally within the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod. Active participation in a Christian faith community is required, membership in a LCMS congregation preferred.
Pay:
$15.00 - $17.00 per hour
