Full-Time Position Overview:
Our client, located in Columbus OH, is seeking a highly organized and dependable Office / HR Administrator to support daily office operations, payroll processing, and human resources functions within a fast-paced construction environment. This individual will play a key role in maintaining administrative efficiency, supporting employees and leadership, coordinating onboarding activities, and ensuring accurate payroll and employee records. The ideal candidate is professional, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities while maintaining confidentiality and strong interpersonal relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
Office Administration
  • Manage daily office operations, including phones, emails, filing, scheduling, and office supplies
  • Support project managers, superintendents, and leadership with administrative tasks
  • Maintain organized employee, project, and vendor records
  • Coordinate meetings, travel arrangements, and company events as needed
  • Assist with document preparation, reports, and correspondence
  • Help ensure compliance with company procedures and safety documentation Human Resources Support
  • Coordinate onboarding and orientation for new hires
  • Maintain employee files and HR records with confidentiality and accuracy
  • Assist with benefits administration and employee documentation
  • Track employee certifications, licenses, training, and required documentation
  • Support recruiting efforts, including posting jobs and scheduling interviews
  • Assist with employee relations, policy communication, and HR compliance initiatives
  • Help manage workers' compensation claims and return-to-work documentation Payroll Responsibilities
  • Process weekly and/or biweekly payroll accurately and on time
  • Review employee timecards, job costing, and labor allocations for accuracy
  • Coordinate with field supervisors regarding employee hours and payroll approvals
  • Maintain payroll records and assist with reporting requirements
  • Process employee status changes, deductions, and direct deposit updates
  • Assist with certified payroll reporting and prevailing wage documentation when required
  • Support year-end payroll activities, including W-2 preparation and audits
  • Ensure compliance with payroll laws, tax regulations, and company policies Qualifications
  • 2+ years of administrative, HR, and/or payroll experience, preferably in construction or a related industry
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience with payroll software, HRIS systems, or construction management software preferred
  • Knowledge of payroll processes, labor tracking, and employee documentation
  • Ability to handle confidential information professionally
  • High school diploma required; associate or bachelor's degree preferred Preferred Skills
  • Experience supporting field and office personnel in a construction environment
  • Knowledge of basic HR practices, payroll procedures, and employment documentation
  • Familiarity with certified payroll and prevailing wage projects is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting
