4/28/2026 POSITION SUMMARY To offer administrative support for the Principal (often with confidential matters) and to complete a variety of routine administrative, secretarial, customer service, and accounting functions and other related work as required for daily operations of the Turning Point Academy education program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Coordinates and organizes office activities and coordinates flow of communications and information for the Principal. Handles routine issues and emergencies concerning employees and students, makes decisions independently or collaboratively and recommends action as appropriate. Compiles information and prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports related to assigned activities. Inputs a variety of information into various databases and systems assuring accuracy of the data entered. Maintains confidentiality of various aspects of school operation including sensitive and personal information. Performs a wide variety of secretarial work, including typing and word processing, proofreading, filing, recording information and processing and distribution of correspondence. Primarily responsible for enrollment and withdrawal process for all students at TPA. Responsible for payroll and absence record keeping of the TPA staff. Serves as a major program information resource person and liaison between schools, departments, the District office and all outside stakeholders including parents and visitors. Communicates with personnel and various outside agencies to exchange information, request and provide materials, coordinate activities and resolve issues or concerns. Receives and greets visitors and provides information to parents and the public; screens correspondence and telephone calls for administrator and staff. Establishes, maintains and assures proper use of confidential files including student, personnel and payroll records. Performs assigned financial duties and maintains assigned financial records, school budgets and site accounts. Prepares and submits purchase orders and work orders as assigned; prepares reimbursement requests and deposits according to established procedures. Attends and participates in assigned meetings and training; prepares minutes from notes as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent required Experience working in a school enviroment preferred Experience working with at-promise youth or an alternative educational setting preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabular Operation of a computer and assigned software. Telephone techniques and etiquette. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Oral and written communication skills. Perform a variety of clerical and secretarial duties to relieve the Principal of administrative and clerical detail. Perform accounting/bookkeeping operations both paper and using online management system Assure smooth and efficient office operations. Maintain a variety of records, logs and files. Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Compose correspondence and written materials independently or from oral instructions. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Serve as liaison between administrators, faculty, staff, parents , detention staff, vendors and the public. Meet schedules and timelines. Complete work with many interruptions. Work independently with little direction. Work confidentially with discretion
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
No supervisory responsibilities are assigned to this position at this time beyond classroom management of students during the school day.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
This position may require travel for SOP events and professional development opportunities. If selected for the position, the program administrator will review travel policies and expectations. Travel is usually a single day trip with a few exceptions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Turning Point Academy is located inside of the local juvenile detention center facility. Working in the building you must adhere to both Lynchburg City Schools and City of Lynchburg safety and security guidelines. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
