This is a fast-paced environment that requires the ability to work with patience, empathy, composure, attention to detail, a team-based mindset, and of course, a good sense of humor. Although knowledge of the veterinary industry would be a plus, it is not a requirement, as we have a wide variety of skill sets ranging from those who have spent a significant amount of time in the field, as well as others who are only just starting their journey into Vet Med. The Front Office Coordinator's main responsibility is to provide exceptional client service while maintaining a smooth and efficient flow of clients and patients through the animal hospital. More specifically, the Front Office Coordinator is responsible for greeting clients, determining the needs of the clients and patients and scheduling accordingly, completing the check-in and check-out process, and communicating with not only the Front Office, but also your Doctors and Starch Pet Hospital and University West Pet Clinics are two well-established full-service veterinary hospitals in the Des Moines metro area. Some of the services we provide include, but are not limited to: Spays and neuters (and other varied surgical procedures), Dentals, Declaws, Ultrasounds, Wellness exams and vaccinations, in-house diagnostics (bloodwork, x-rays, etc.) and other standard procedures. Our team will help you become more comfortable in your knowledge of the services we provide and answer any questions you may have, or redirect you to someone who can. After all, we have all been in your place at one time or another, and we want you to feel accepted and confident in your abilities. We feel it is important, not only to take care of our clients and patients, but also our employees by providing them with quality resources to optimize their time at our clinics.

Scheduling initial AND follow-up medical progress exams and/or appointments for additional healthcare as directed by a Doctor. Differentiate and prioritize/triage emergency cases versus routine exams, and communicate with staff accordingly. Documenting client interactions and being cognizant of Doctor/Technician Medical History Notations. Be familiar with infectious and common zoonotic diseases; including prevention, and the steps to reduce or eliminate transmission. Maintain, establish, and recognize the importance of understanding medical record filing systems. Handling both cash, checks, and card transactions, including deposits, balancing, and invoicing. Showing empathy towards grieving and distressed clients during the difficult times.
