Job Description

The following vacancy exists in Goshen Community Schools for the 2026-27 school year: Waterford Elementary Parent Liaison
POSITION PURPOSE
To bridge the gap between home and school by helping parents of language minority students get the information and support they need to ensure their child's academic and social success; to empower parents to become active participants in their child's education; and to integrate them into the school community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Lau Duties To ensure the social, emotional and academic success of language minority students. When the inability to speak and understand the English language excludes any group of children from effective participation in the educational program offered by the school district, the district will take affirmative steps to address the deficiency in order to open its instructional programs to all students. Be a central part of the administrative team. Establish culturally appropriate relationships with parents/families as a basis for all other services and interaction provided by school staff. Facilitate access of language minority families to school services such as the school counselor, the school nurse, the principal, or the teacher as appropriate. Communicate with language minority parents as requested by school personnel. Facilitate the communication of the language minority parents with school personnel by interpreting for them when they visit the school or have a conference with school personnel. (Refer formal written translation requests to the central administration office translator.) Assist principals, counselors and teachers by interpreting for limited English proficient students who have discipline issues. Assist principals and counselors in promoting regular school attendance.
Title III Duties:
Empower parents to become active participants in their child's education. To integrate language minority parents into the school community. Educate parents how they can support the education of their child(ren) at all levels by hosting educational events throughout the year for LM parents in conjunction with the Central Office English Learning department in order to create an educational partnership with Language Minority parents. Assist the principals in promoting the attendance and participation of language minority parents at school events. Keep accurate logs of family visits, phone calls and time spent with families. Attend EL staff meetings and/or Parent Liaison meetings. Participate in staff development activities for Goshen Schools or outside providers e.g. academic, programmatic, curricular, assessment, standards, etc. for the purpose of improving service delivery skills and communicating school initiatives accurately to parents. Assist families with access to community services/supports.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree preferred Associates degree may be accepted Fluently bilingual in spoken and written Spanish and English
QUALIFICATIONS
Experienced in and able to function successfully in cross-cultural settings Self-motivated and able to prioritize and organize responsibilities Ability to keep accurate records Able to perform job duties without supervision Be able to establish rapport with staff, children, parents and families and possess tact; courtesy; and good judgment
HOURS:
School year - 180 days plus 4 additional days per year; 40 hours per week; daily hours 7:30am-4:00pm
SALARY:
$18.50-$19.25, rate is dependent upon education and/or experience. (Schedule #20-1.0)
