  • Part-time Job Summary This position provides organizational and administrative support to the pastor and congregation of Tecumseh UMC, with special emphasis on evolving forms of communication and media needed to support the church in fulfilling its mission "to share and teach God's love with all".
The position requires a person who possesses flexibility, creativity, and problem solving skills, as well as a pleasant and helpful manner in working with church and community members, pastor, and staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES
I. PASTOR Provide organizational, administrative, and media support to the pastor with strong adherence to confidentiality, timelines, and accuracy. Publish and copy bulletins for all services Gather volunteers' names for worship (ushers, greeters, communion servers, liturgists, etc) Create slide presentations, coordinate video and sound for worship Send correspondence, make phone calls, and travel arrangements as requested Serve as a point of contact for the pastor in his/her absence. Assist in tracking needs of church community (surgeries, hospitalizations, grief and loss, transitions)
II. CHURCH
Direct a productive, efficient, and professional church office. Maintain a calendar for all activities in the building Create, copy, and mail newsletter before the first of the month Answer incoming phone calls Pick up and distribute mail Keep membership records current: membership book, church directory, mail, and e-mail lists, birthdays, and anniversaries Collect attendance numbers Acknowledge memorial contributions Make copies and assist others with use of copy machine Keep office supplies stocked Change front sign weekly Maintain a well-organized and professional office appearance Provide assistance and support to committees Send committee meeting reminders if requested Type final drafts of meeting minutes if requested Assist with preparation of materials for church council meetings, finance campaigns, charge conference, and other reports required by the annual conference Maintain accurate and thorough records of committee minutes . Other duties as assigned.
III. COMMUNITY
Update website and social media regularly. Create and distribute promotional materials for church events and projects. (flyers, posters, postcards, advertisements, evites, videos) Prepare and distribute news releases to maximize community awareness of Tecumseh UMC. Ensure that all church activities are publicized on local and regional calendars through all avenues (TV, radio, print, social media) Make personal contact with media and maintain current contact information
WORKING CONDITIONS
Employee must be comfortable working alone in the church Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Significant experience that is directly related to the responsibilities specified. Demonstrate ability to maintain confidentiality. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Skilled in the use of database management, word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software; specifically, Microsoft Office Suite, Publisher, Zoom, Facebook, YouTube, and AI assist apps. Self-starter who can anticipate, initiate, and complete tasks with minimal supervision, and work independently. Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate multiple projects. Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports. The candidate best suited to this position will have enthusiasm, be compassionate, and personable as well as the necessary skills to help Tecumseh UMC expand its use of communications technology as it seeks to fulfill its mission.
TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Complete Safe Gathering Training for Children, Youth, and Adult with Developmental Disabilities in the Great Plains Conference.
HOURS:
Sunday thru Thursday 9:00 a.m. to noon During the Lenten and Advent season, recorded extra hours worked will be paid in addition to regular hours as approved by the SPRC chair and the Pastor.
BENEFITS
: Paid holidays: If the following holidays fall on a workday except Sunday,they will be paid time off : New Year's, Christmas, Easter Monday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and Thanksgiving Day.
Paid Time Off:
Available after the first 6 months of employment
  • 5 paid days off per year to be used as vacation, personal, family, or sick leave. After one year of employment
  • an additional 5 UNPAID days off per year can be used as personal days.
Pay:
$15.00
