Our Department of Public Works - Operations and Forestry & Grounds Division is seeking a detail-driven Administrative Assistant to support essential services that maintain the safety, beauty, and functionality of our public spaces. The Town is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable full-time (37.5 hours/week) Administrative Assistant to support the daily operations of the Department of Public Works' Operations and Forestry/Grounds Division. This position plays an important role in delivering efficient public services by providing clerical, financial, and customer service support. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly organized professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys variety in their workday, and takes pride in supporting services that directly benefit the community. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Assist with payroll processing, including calculating pay, posting vacation/sick/earned time, and tracking raises and other employee payments. Support financial functions by posting expenditures, maintaining account balances, and preparing deposits for various fees and permits. Serve as a primary point of contact for public inquiries related to trash and recycling, leaf collection, railroad parking, snow removal, street repairs, and other DPW operations. Maintain records for street opening permits and associated payments. Prepare bid documents, service contracts, correspondence, reports, forms, applications, and other written materials with accuracy and proper formatting. Manage fuel inventory records, issue fuel keys and operator numbers, complete monthly fuel reports, and process interdepartmental billing for fuel usage. Provide general administrative support, including data entry, recordkeeping, file organization, and assist supervisors with special projects as needed. Handle confidential information in accordance with policies and procedures.
Qualifications and Experience:
High school diploma; three years' experience in general clerical and secretarial work involving bookkeeping, word processing, and customer services; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. FY 2026
Starting Salary Range:
$50,626 - $52,874 DOQ, with generous benefits, including health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, flexible spending accounts and retirement plan. Salary will increase on July 1, 2026 and again on the employee's first anniversary. How to
