STATEWIDE This Statewide recruitment has been opened to establish a list of eligible candidates to be used to fill current and future vacancies occurring in our Local Departments of Social Services throughout the State. PLEASE NOTE...We have current vacancies at the following location: Prince George's County Office of Child Support Administration Legal Unit 4235 28th Avenue, Suite 135 Temple Hills, MD 20748 Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services Child Protective Services Unit 7500 Ritchie Highway Glen Burnie, MD 21061 Main Purpose Of Job Legal Assistant (current position): Conducts administrative hearings for child support settlement conferences and/or conciliation hearings, preparingplaints and motions for filing with the court to establish, enforce, and modify child support cases. Negotiation of settlement conferences to reach consent order agreements between the parties and refers cases to the Assistant Attorney General to be heard before the Judge or Magistrate when agreement cannot be reached. Supervision of special projects and analysis of data relating to the operation of the Legal Unit in the Prince George's County Child Support Administration. Assist the Assistant Attorney General in the court room by conducting in-depth analysis of the facts in the case or interactions with child support litigants, attorneys, employers, and court personnel; making decisions regarding the review and adjustment process;pletion ofplex legal documents. Individuals must be able to interpret and apply Maryland Family Law, Federal regulations, COMAR, and various legal references. Individuals must possess effective written and oralmunication skills.
Nature of Work of Administrative Officer I:
Administrative Officer I is administrative work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpretingplex administrative plans or policies. Employees in this classification are assigned administrative responsibilities involving the analysis of operational programs or procedures with rmendations for improvements. Employees in this classification do not supervise.
POSITION DUTIES
Legal Assistant (current position): Attends court hearings including conducting settlement conferences to obtain consent agreements and obtaining and preparing consent orders. Complete court follow up by retaining all required documentation, entering the information in the court calendar, and updating the case disposition; Reviews and makes adjustment by reviewing and processing all assigned modifications and reviewing all databases. Conducts Legal research and preparation of legal documents by contacting necessary parties, scheduling interviews,pleting requesting information in requested format, and monitoring the discovery process. Customer Service by responding and resolving customer service inquiries.
Example of Work:
Independently plans, develops, conducts or supervises the conduct of studies and analyses of agency programs, organizations, procedures or systems. Formulates final reports and effective rmendations based on analyses conducted. Prepares or supervises the preparation and development of management tools such as procedural manuals, statistical reports, work-flow charts, performance measurement criteria or organization charts. Participates in the formulation, establishment or modification of program goals and objectives through analysis of alternatives, trends, available resources and projected program needs. Participates in the program planning process by developing forecasts, proposals or procedures for orderly growth and expansion. Confers with other administrative officials, program heads, staff specialists or others in order to exchange information pertaining to the program, or interpret policies or offer rmendations. Advises departmental officials regarding administrative practices, procedures or policies. Coordinates inter-agency transactions and provides liaison with officials in other agencies in the State, legislature, the federalernment, private industry or localernment agencies. May provide assistance to a higher-level administrator in the formulation and preparation of an agency's budget or portions of the budget. Performs other related duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience:
One year of administrative staff or professional work.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for the required experience. 2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as amissioned officer involving staff work that included regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpretingplex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with rmendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications. Six months of experience in preparing pleadings, motions, and various court documents and/or participating in administrative hearings or hearings in front of a Magistrate or a Judge and/or using Maryland Electronic Courts (MDEC). Six months of experience utilizing MDThink applications such as Child Support Management System (CSMS) and Eligibility and Enrollment (E&E). Six months of experience using Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), Google Sheets, or Smartsheet. One year of experience creating and submitting written reports or evaluations. One year of experiencemunicating with internal and external customers ormunity partners or stakeholders. One year of experience formulation and preparation of an agency's budget or portions of the budget.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
