Job Description

Town of South Thomaston - Town Clerk Position The Town of South Thomaston, a coastal community in Knox County with a year-round population of 1,558 and a significant seasonal population, is seeking applicants for the position of Town Clerk . The position is available immediately. The Town Clerk reports to a three-member Selectboard but works with a high degree of day-to-day independence. This role requires mature discretionary judgment, initiative, and strong organizational skills. This is a part-time position consisting of a 26-hour work week over four days . In addition to serving as Town Clerk, the successful candidate will also act as the General Assistance Administrator and will oversee a range of essential municipal functions, including:
  • Managing and preserving vital records (birth, marriage, and death)
  • Administering all local, state, and federal elections
  • Collecting excise taxes and issuing motor vehicle registrations and IF&W licenses, and preparing monthly reports using MOSES and TRIO
  • Serving as Clerk to the Selectboard, including preparing agendas, attending meetings, and recording meeting minutes
  • Managing day-to-day office operations
  • Maintaining and updating the Town's website
  • Maintaining agendas and minutes of the Selectboard and Town Committees The ideal candidate will have:
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • Proficiency with modern office technology and computer systems
  • The ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment
  • Municipal experience or relevant training (preferred) This is an hourly position , with compensation based on experience and training.
