Job Description
CLERK 2, Security (7 hours per day)
Purpose Statement
The job of Clerk•Security is done for the purpose/s of providing clerical support to assigned personnel; communicating information to staff and the public; providing complete and accurate records; and providing information and/or direction as may be requested.
Essential Functions
Communicates safety and security policies and enforcement procedures to students, staff and visitors for the purpose of ensuring their understanding of such information and the potential consequences of violation. Informs direct supervisor or administration of safety concerns.
Cover classroom, common student areas and common community visiting areas as needed for supervision to for the purpose of provide a safe and positive environment.
Escort students for the purpose of ensuring student arrival and/or conduct.
Intervenes in potential conflicts and emergency situations for the purpose of minimizing disruptions of campus activities and/or injury to involved parties. Informs direct supervisor or administration when intervening.
Monitors student behavior during and between assigned periods (e.g. rest rooms, playgrounds, hallways, library, cafeteria, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring student compliance with established guidelines, maintaining a safe and positive learning environment, and secure facility.
Participates in unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
Prepares oral or written materials (e.g. incident reports, activity logs, observations, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing oral or written reference, and/or conveying information.
Refers incidents including personal injuries, altercations, suspicious activities, rule violations, etc. to appropriate site personnel for the purpose of ensuring follow-up in accordance with administrative, site security, and student safety guidelines.
Responds to a variety of situations (e.g. accidents, injuries, vandalism, suspicious activities, alarms, etc.) for the purpose of taking the appropriate action to resolve immediate safety and/or security concerns.
Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources regarding campus security issues for the purpose of providing information, direction, and/or referral for addressing inquiry.
Other Functions
Assists with processing of documents, forms, mailings and materials for the purpose of disseminating information to appropriate parties.
Attends department and/or in-service meetings for the purpose of gathering information required to perform functions.
Collects data (e.g. student tracking, schedules and student locations to assist with student safety and security, etc.) for the purpose of preparing reports and/or processing forms.
Distributes safety materials and communication for the purpose of ensuring delivery to addressee.
Maintains manual and electronic documents files and records (e.g. letters, forms, reports, etc.) for the purpose of providing up-to-date information and/or historical reference in accordance with established administrative guidelines and legal requirements.
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of administrative support.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: concepts of grammar and punctuation; common office machines; and office methods and practices.
SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:
operating standard office equipment; using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities; collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals; work with similar types of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; and working as part of a team.

Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 30% walking, and 50% standing. The job is performed in a generally hazard free environment.
Experience:
Job related experience is desired.
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent.
