Administrative Officer Company Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration Location Fort Harrison, MT Date Posted 05/10/2026 Description Summary This is a Career Ladder Position. Unless selected at the full performance level, GS-9, the incumbent will serve in a developmental assignment to provide the individual with the knowledge, skills, & abilities needed to perform the full range of duties as described in the target position. The incumbent will perform the duties outlined in the target grade position description but will operate under closer supervision and will not be expected to demonstrate the same level of subject matter mastery. Responsibilities This position serves as the Administrative Officer for the Police and Security Service within the Montana VA Health Care System. Major duties and responsibilities include Personnel Administration and Management Leads in administering programs concerning equal opportunity, merit promotion, employee/labor-management relations and position management. Space management Approving supply orders and resource management Budgeting/Financial Management Maintains awareness of available resources and makes rmendations regarding needs and distribution Gathering and analyzing budget needs Maintains internal controls for fiscal management Assembles andpiles budget information Procurement/Contracting Manages procurement and contracting for the service Prepares procurement requests and evaluates proposals for work Initiates and prepares contracts Performs other related duties as assigned. Promotion Potential The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without furtherpetition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Physical Demands The work is primarily sedentary, although some slight physical effort may be required. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 05/14/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05 grade level and for a GS-9 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07 grade level. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note Time-In-Grade requirements also to former Federal employees ing for reinstatement as well as current employees ing for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below Specialized Experience GS-7 To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-05. Specialized experience includes Compiling information and preparing administrative reports for briefings; maintaining and updating databases and dputer drives; providing advice and assistance to managers and staff concerning personnel processes and procedures; and coordinating with management to control purchasing and use of supplies.
